Overview:

As a former Deputy State Fire Marshal, Fire Safety Inspector and Police Officer I have extensive experience in fire investigation, evidence collection and court appearances.  I have given approximately 22 depositions as an expert witness with approximately 5 appearances in court as an expert witness.  I have appeared in court as a police officer approximately 50 to 100 times.  Note, police officer appearances are considered participatory witness and not expert witness.  I have investigated approximately 2000 fires in my 28 years in fire protection and approximately 100 of those fires were intentionally set.

Experience:

The McMullen Company: Expert in fire investigations, expert witness, code expert and expert in NFPA 921.

BJ Foster and Associates: Expert in fires caused by flammable liquids ignited by water heaters in residential garages.  This is the area where the majority of depositions were given.  Other cases included two criminal defense cases in the Sacramento area and 12 civil cases.

Office of the State Fire Marshal: Arson and bomb unit in Southern California which included a major fire extinguisher company fraud case which was prosecuted by the Los Angeles District Attorneys Office in which the defendant was found guilty and a $150,000 fine was levied.

El Segundo Fire Department:  Fire Safety Inspector and fire investigator between 1979 and 1984 in which the city averaged 500 fires per year according to CFIRS records.  I was assigned the duties of fire documentation; assist the Fire Marshal and Police Sergeant in investigation the fire or investigating the fire on my own as directed by the Fire Chief.

Police Officer:  I worked as a Reserve Police Officer for the Cities of Torrance and Hawthorne California and a full time officer in Glacier County Montana.
